high-rise hostess!

I am so flattered to be mentioned in a High-Rise Hostess article about NYC’s fabulous hosts! I don’t think I am quite there yet but I loved reading about City Magazine‘s Renee Lucas. Keep checking her blog for more tips in the upcoming weeks!

party time!

I don’t care if everyone is partied out from the holidays. We need to keep up our spirits and I just discovered the perfect blog to hook us up. High-Rise Hostess has amazing do-it-yourself tips for entertaining at home. This weekend I had the the pleasure of combating the no-picture policy at Monkey Bar and toasting champagne coupes at the Boom Boom Room with this hostess with the mostess. I’m making it my resolution to balance my other resolution (more yoga) with plenty of eating, drinking, and merriment.

walk walk fashion baby

This post is in honor of my favorite song-of-the-moment “Bad Romance” (or, according to Boyfriend, “that song where Gaga tries to speak French”). A bunch of friends went to the Lady Gaga concert in Boston this week at the Wang Center. Looks rad but never expected anything less. The Wang Center is an inspired choice for her; I mean, I used to watch the Nutcracker there every year. It’s a semi-intimate setting with fantastic acoustics and just a totally decadent space.

I would love to walk in Gaga’s (Alexander McQueen prehistoric insect) shoes for a day. I want to go here in the city but Gaga @ MSG sounds like my worst nightmares. OR my wildest dreams. Depending on the hour.

sonia rykiel + H&M

partytime

Last night was a mayjah party night for the bf and myself, although separated by the big pond. I attended the launch for Isaora at B.East, which was awesome!! I met a couple of the geniuses over at Weiden + Kennedy who are working on some super cool branding for the line. Hopefully more about that later.

Meanwhile, in Paris, Boyfriend attended the launch party of Sonia Rykiel’s lingerie collection for H&M at the Grand Palais… While the competition is fierce, I think he wins for cooler party.

The Grand Palais was transformed into a Parisian-themed fun fair for around 2,000 guests, complete with a ferris wheel, an 11-story Eiffel Tower, a goose parade, candy floss stands, some crazy psychedelic mushrooms, and majorettes from Croatia.

The Sonia Rykiel pour H&M lingerie collection debuts in around 1,500 H&M stores worldwide on Saturday. Hmmm… wonder if there was a gift bag?? Check out his awesome pics below. He actually said the pics are nothing compared to being there in person, and that it was one of the top ten, most extraordinary events he has ever been to. Love it when blockbuster brands step up and throw us great parties!

Oh I almost forgot the best part!! Boyfriend spotted and met none other than Eric L. Archibald from my guilty pleasure, Styl’d. Boyfriend told him we were watchers and apparently he was super nice and cool.

Now time for me to get back to the sample sale! (can u tell this is a mobileblog? More frantic than usual!) Met Morgan Spurlock this morning (so amazingly sweet and genuine) and the girls and I embarrassed him by gushing over Supersize Me! Back to work… :)

on the agenda

Glenda Bailey tonight 6-8 PM at the Museum at FIT. There may still be space and it’s free to the public, just RSVP at museuminfo@fitnyc.edu.

Then, Housing Works’ annual benefit, Fashion For Action, chaired this year by Derek Lam. Event is closed to the public but more than 150 designers donated $1M worth of merchandise to be sold at 50-70% off, with all proceeds going to Housing Works. I’m proud to say my company is in the list of contributors.

kisses for the troops

This afternoon I came across a kissing booth of a most cuuurious sort. In honor of Veteran’s Day, Cosmo and Maybelline were soliciting kisses from women on the street to be sent to our troops around the world, set to arrive on December 31, 2009. When I entered the booth the rep mentioned that they were also setting a Guinness World Record for most kisses collected in a day. So far today on the corner of 8th ave and 14th street more than 2000 women have volunteered their lips for our boys and girls overseas.

For each kiss collected, Maybelline and Cosmo will donate $1 to the USO. I didn’t find out what shade of Maybelline Color Sensational the cheerful makeup artist applied to me (it was in the Pinks). As I was about to ask, she gave me an mock-exasperated look and said I was the 1400th person she had applied lipstick to today. When I told her it was for a good cause, she said some megabitch denied participating because she “had on $20 lipstick.” NO! I can’t even imagine what these men and women are feeling and the least we can do is show them that we haven’t forgotten about them and that we support them. I’m a sensitive sort; when I left the booth and one of the soldiers outside gave me a very genuine thank you, I was practically ready to kiss him!

Some men in uniform posed gamely and I was able to get a shot inside the mobile booth below.
